Letter: State Road 206 headed way of County Road 210

Editor: The recent March 1 guest column by Dr. Jon Wiles summed up what most of St. Johns County's problems stem from, "irresponsible growth."

In 10 years, State Road 206 will be like County Road 210 with signs saying right lanes be prepared to stop 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

I once heard a County Commissioner state that "as long as the developer promises to six-lane this four-lane road then no harm is done by building more homes and malls."

Our commissioner/developers have even approved a housing development on top of an abandoned bombing range. I was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in the late 1960s. At Eglin live and dummy bombs are dropped on the ranges to observe the results. I've seen what happens to people handling these shells that can't tell the difference. The Air Force would hire contractors to retrieve these munitions under the watchful eyes of EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) personnel. One contractor didn't have time to wait for EOD and started collecting shells laying on the range. We now call him "Lefty."

Do you want your kids playing in a playground built there?
