Continuing police abuses in Florida require body-worn cameras on all officers, as St. Augustine Police now wear.
There's no excuse for fast-talking St. Johns County Sheriff Robert Hardwick's massive resistance to body-worn cameras, which protect the rights of police and other citizens alike. Nor is there any excuse for the Board of County Commissioners lack of any effective oversight over the Sheriff, a "constitutional office" whose occupant has traditionally run the political machine here.
Disgraced former St. Johns County Sheriff DAVID SHOAR said in 2016 that he rejected the "false narrative that cops need to be watched."
We know how coarse SHOAR would have America answer the question of the Roman satirist Juvenal, "Who guards the guardians?" Sneaky snaky S/HOAR's answer would be, "no one!"
How much influence does SHOAR have? He covered up the Michelle O'Connell and Eli Washtock homicides and tolerated more than $702,666 embezzlement for five years.
SHOAR legally changed his name from "HOAR" in 1994. Was this an anticipatory effort to escape from the effects of onomatopoeia?
