City omits encouragement for women and minorities to apply for jobs. Wonder why?

Once run by KKK, the City of St. Augustine is still infested with bigots who are directors, and directors who are bigots. One bigot, retires on October 14, 2019 (Assistant City Manager TIMOTHY J. BURCHFIELD).

Still under his dumb dumb thumb, the City of St. Augustine just issued an invitation for people to apply for EIGHT (8) jobs, unadorned by any notation that the City is an EEO/Affirmative Action employer and that women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

The jobs are:


  • Communications Operator (St. Augustine Police Department)
  • Firefighter
  • Historic Preservation Planner
  • Meter Reader
  • Police Officer
  • Recording Secretary
  • Stormwater Worker
  • Streets & Grounds Worker
  • Utility Worker

Nothing about being an EEO employer for encouraging minorities and women to apply,

Wonder why?

This stinks.

Can't wait for TIMMY (a/k/a "SUNSHINE") to go.  He retires in 24 days.

City Commission meets on Monday

Regular meeting begins at 5:00pm
     The St. Augustine City Commission will convene for its regular meeting on Monday, September 23 starting at 5:00pm.

PZB Comp Plan workshop rescheduled

Next Comp Plan review by PZB is on September 24 at 1:00pm      Due to Hurricane Dorian, the Planning and Zoning Board workshop on the Comprehensive Plan has been rescheduled and will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 24, in The Alcazar Room, City Hall, located at 75 King St
     The meeting will be streamed live at www.CityStAugTV.com where it will be available for on-demand viewing the day following the meeting.

     Members of the PZB will review and discuss the infrastructure element and the draft future land use element of the Comprehensive Plan.

Nightlife Strategic Plan meeting rescheduled

Meeting set for Wednesday, September 25 at 3:00pm
     During the August 12 St. Augustine City Commission meeting, City Manager John Regan presented a five-point plan addressing concerns raised by the changing character of the city's downtown night environment.
     This Quality of Nightlife Strategic Plan is the topic of a public meeting that has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 25 from 3:00pm-5:00pm in The Alcazar Room, City Hall, 75 King St. The meeting was postponed due to Hurricane Dorian.

City salutes National Hispanic Heritage Month


That's why there's a Spanish flag at City Hall
     The City of St. Augustine is offering a salute to its own Spanish heritage by observing National Hispanic Heritage Month with a Spanish flag displayed at the entrance to City Hall.
     National Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to include the 30-day period from September 15 to October 15.
     St. Augustine was founded by the Spanish in 1565 and  except for the brief 20-year British Period, remained a Spanish colony until becoming a territory of the United States in 1821.

Historic Preservation depends on state grants


City's historic preservation applications garner high ranking
     In the world of historic preservation, grant funding is essential to nearly every project, and the State of Florida's Division of Historical Resources (DHR) has a multilayer program of granting funds to dozens of wide-ranging types of projects across the state each year.
     The process to secure the DHR funds is a very competitive one that involves lengthy and detailed applications being reviewed by a panel of historic preservation professionals who rank the applications.  
     Good news for St. Augustine is that several of its applications have been reviewed in recent weeks and received very favorable rankings.
