Meet Senator RICHARD LYNN SCOTT's 2024 Senate re-election campaign National Finance Co-Chair, billionaire developer CARLOS MIGUEL BERUFF. Right here in St. Augustine. In 2016, Florida CARLOS MIGUEL BERUFF twice called President Barack Obama an "animal." It happened here in St. Augustine, during BERUFF's unsuccessful Republican Primary challenge to Senator MARCO ANTIONIO RUBIO. In calling President Obama an "animal," twice, BERUFF was speaking before the St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee. CARLOS BERUFF refused to apologize.
Fun fact: The St. Augustine Record, then owned by maladroit Georgia-based Morris Communications, finally covered the story, but only after other media outlets reported it. But the St. Augustine Record oddly stated that BERUFF spoke to a "Republican group," omitting the name of that Republican group. As my late reporter-videographer friend J.D. Pleasant often said, "they will say and do anything," and "if you want something covered up, tell the St. Augustine Record."
As Governor, RICK SCOTT named CARLOS MIGUEL BERUFF chair of the Florida Constitution Revision Commission, his parting gift to the billionaire developer. Now BERUFF is one of the National Finance Co-Chairs bagmen for Senator SCOTT's re-election campaign.
